Markdown to PDF with a cover page

A cover page turns a Markdown file into something you can hand to a client. The studio adds one with your title, author, date and logo, in any of four themes, and previews it free in the browser. The same option is available as cover: true on the API.

What goes on the cover

  • Title: defaults to the first # heading in your Markdown; override it in the Title field.
  • Author or organisation and date: free text, printed under the title.
  • Logo (studio): PNG, JPEG or SVG under 1 MB, uploaded from your computer and embedded in the PDF. The API cover prints title, author and date; add a logo in the body as a data: URI image if you need one.
  • In the studio, a document that starts with a # heading does not repeat that heading on the first body page when the cover is on.

Choosing a theme

  • Clean: sans-serif, generous margins, blue headings. Documentation and internal reports.
  • Report: serif body, numbered headings, formal cover. Client deliverables.
  • Minimal: tight, monochrome, small type. READMEs and specifications.
  • Letter: correspondence layout with a letterhead block.

Switch themes and preview again; previews are free.

Steps in the studio

  1. Open the studio and paste your Markdown or upload a .md file.
  2. Fill in Title (optional), Author and Date; upload a logo if you want one.
  3. Keep Cover page ticked, choose a theme and page size, and press Preview PDF.
  4. Happy with it? Pay $5 by card for the clean export. No account is created.

Studio previews carry a watermark and are deleted after 24 hours. A clean export is $5 per document, no account needed.

From the API

{"markdown": "## Summary\n\n...\n\n## Findings\n\n...", "title": "Q3 Infrastructure Review", "author": "Platform team", "date": "October 2026", "theme": "report", "cover": true, "toc": true, "header": "Q3 review", "footer": "Internal"}

Because the API does not remove headings from the body, omit the # heading and pass title instead when you do not want the title repeated on page one. Documentation: Markdown to PDF API.

Questions

Can I change how the cover looks?

Pick a different theme, or on the API add CSS in the css field targeting .cover, .cover-title, .cover-author and .cover-date. Set theme to none and send HTML if you want a completely custom cover.

Which image formats work for the logo?

PNG, JPEG and SVG, up to 1 MB. The file is embedded in the document; nothing is fetched from the web.

Does the cover count as a page?

Yes, it is the first page of the PDF. Page numbers print as n / total, where total includes the cover.

Do I need an account?

No. The studio has no signup. Preview free, pay $5 per clean export by card. Previews are deleted after 24 hours.
